Mrs. Mary O. Parsons passed away at the home of her son-in-law, C.W. Fish, 393 East Seventh street, at two o'clock Thursday morning June 4, 1925. Had she lived until next February she would have been ninety years of age. Her death was due to old age. She has been in very poor health for the past six years but was not confined to her bed during that time.
Mary O. Scott was born in the state of New York on February 8, 1836, and was the daughter of Isaac and Phobe Scott, being the fifth child In a family of nine children who lived to grow to manhood and womanhood.
She was married to H.D. Parsons on April 30, 1856, and to this worthy couple were born ten children, four of whom died in infancy.
Her husband passed to the great beyond on November 11, 1896, and later on December 26, 1908, her youngest son, Fred Eugene, was taken from her, followed by Mrs. Jake Lang on May 6, 1919, and Mrs. C.W. Fish, March 6, 1925.
Mrs. Parsons was a Christian woman, having professed faith in the Lord and Master when a girl and all the passing years since has been true to that faith.
She was a faithful wife and companion, an ideal mother In kindness and example as well as in instruction and training. She was a friend and in the communities where she lived in earlier years she was general helper and nurse where there was need. For a long time she was member of the W.C.T.U.
With her husband and family she came to Spencer when It was a small village of perhaps a half dozen little log and frame buildings making it practically fifty-five years to the day that Spencer, has been her home. She met bravely and courageously the hardships and actual want, some times incident to pioneer life, together with her share of family sickness, through all of which she rung true and for which for children and grandchildren praise her. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, for their works do follow them
She and her husband became members of the Baptist church two years after its first organization and she has been a faithful and consistent member up to the day of he death though It Is true that the last few years she has not been able to attend Its services.
She leaves to mourn their lost three children, Mrs. Gertrude Burnham of Deadwood, South Dakota, E.M. Parsons of Osage, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Edwards of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the latter being unable to attend the services. Besides the children there are nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, also one brother, 82 years old of Plainfield, Iowa, and a host of friends and other relatives who feel a sense of loneliness and personal loss.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock a the Baptist church with Rev. Thompkins officiating.
Interment was made at Riverside cemetery where her husband and son have been laid to rest.
Those from out of town who attended the services were; Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Fish of Emmetsburg, E.M. Parsons of Osage, Louis Ulo of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fish of Climbing Hill, Iowa, Mrs. Gertrude Burnham of Deadwood, South Dakota
