The large attendance at the funeral services last Saturday for Wm. Vogt, who passed away in Moneta Wednesday, December 26, was a fitting tribute of the high esteem in which the deceased was held in this community.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Hartley at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, and burial was made In Pleasant View cemetery. Rev. Sebastian of Moneta was in charge of the services.
William Vogt was born at Traer, Iowa, October 30, 1885, the son of Anna and George Vogt.
At the age of 19 years he came to Hartley, where he later engaged in the clothing business. After residing in this city for a period of nine years, he moved to Moneta where he operated a store for several years, and 16 years ago became manager of the Dow, Hale & Lerlgo Grain Co. at Moneta, in which capacity he served at the time of his death. He was a resident of Moneta for the past 21 years.
Mr. Vogt was prominent In public and civic affairs of the town.
At the time of his death he was secretary of the Moneta school board, and also served as treasurer of the town, always conscientious In fulfilling the duties he had before him.
He was a member of the Methodist church at Moneta, joining the church eleven years ago, during the pastorate of Rev. Fellows.
On December 25, 1907, William Vogt was united in marriage to Edna Pheteplace. To this union five children were born, Merle, Lyle, Helen, Joyce and Wayne Darrel, all of whom with their sorrow-stricken mother are left to mourn his death.
He is also survived by one grandson, Gaylord Vogt; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lyle Vogt;
five sisters, Mrs. Katie Schoenlng of Ames, Mrs. Anna Elchner of Hartley, Mrs. Mary Mundt of Clutier, Lena Vogt of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Clara Schmidt of Dysart; one brother, Henry Vogt, of Lynd, Minnesota, and a host of other relatives and friends.
His father and mother, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
Among the relatives from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Miss Lena Vogt of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Theodore Mundt of Clutler, Mrs. Katie Schoenlng of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schmidt of Dysart, Henry Vogt of Lynd, Minn., Mrs. Lena Pheteplace of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Paulsen of Steen, Minn. and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kruse of Spencer.
