William “Bill” Kramer (79) was born June 6, 1942 and died February 11, 2022. His final days were spent surrounded by family.
Bill grew up in Clinton, IA, attended the University of Dubuque, and eventually moved to Spencer, IA where he raised his family with Beth.
An avid golfer, Bill helped lead the Clinton High School golf team to three state championships, won many amateur tournaments, and loved playing golf regularly with family as well as with friends in Spencer, especially his group known as the Dirty Dozen. While in Spencer, he was an owner of Hardware Hank, was General Manager for Northwest Iowa Beverage, and eventually retired from Farmers Bank, where he had worked the majority of his life. He was a big fan of Iowa Hawkeye athletics, especially Hawkeye football. Along with friends, he attended many games with the Flying Hawks out of Spencer. He also had a love for the Minnesota Vikings, but that was more torture than fun as they could never quite win the big game. His big personality and enjoyment for life, made it so he was well known in Spencer and throughout the state. He retired to Naples, Florida where he lived and played golf at Foxfire. In 2019 he moved back to Iowa to be close to his children and grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents Jay and Eleanor Kramer, as well as his sister-in-law Carolyn Kramer. He is survived by his brother Larry Kramer of Clinton, IA, sister Mary (Ken) Moseley of Longwood, FL, as well as his children Chris (Julie) Kramer of West Des Moines, Kim (Greg) Moyle of Ankeny, J.P. (Kara) Kramer of Johnston, and Megan (Josh) Sampson of Grimes, along with his grandchildren: Elle and Will Kramer, Gabe Moyle, Lindy, Nina, Wade, and Marley Kramer, Max, Sophia, and Lucy Sampson
Service will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, February, 16th. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm with a service to follow. Reception will be at Hyperion Field Club in Johnston following the service. On Friday, February, 18th, a private burial will be held in Clinton, Iowa.
