Carl Eldon Crane, the son of Harry and Rebecca (Henderson) Crane, was born September 29, 1928 in Dickens, IA. His childhood years were spent in Dickens. Carl graduated from Gillett Grove in 1947. After high school, he worked at H&N Chevrolet.
Carl married Marian Hagedorn on February 2, 1951, in Royal, Ia. He was drafted and served with the 780th Field Artillery Battalion in Korea and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the Dickens American Legion.
He returned to Spencer after his military service, where the couple made their home and he worked at H&N. In 1963, he opened Crane’s Tune-up and Repair and was in business for 15 years. He worked for UPS for a shortime [sic] and many years with the Clay County Fair. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and traveling with the family: Dianne, Jeanet, Clark and Ivan.
Carl and Marian went to the 780th Army Reunions and enjoyed 28 winters on South Padre Island, TX. They enjoyed social bingo, jam sessions and breakfast with friends were events they looked forward to Through all his years, he was gifted with fixing and building. He tackled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, woodworking, wood carving and finding and fixing clocks of all kinds. His coffee time was with friends was a fun time for many, many years.
He passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at the age of 91. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian in 2018; a brother, Bill Crane; his sisters: Lucille and her husband, Kenny Hamrick and Marion and her husband, Jim.
Left to cherish his memory are their children: Dianne (Jerry) Simpson of Rochester, MN, Jeanet (Brian) Carlson of Linn Grove, IA, Clark (Jana) Crane of Amana, IA and Ivan (Dawn) Crane of Spencer; 10 grandchildren: J. Noble (Rie) Simpson, Natasha Post, Britta (Jared) Patterson, Grant Simpson, Neal Carlson, Shane Carlson, Brad (Amy) Carlson, Jill Carlson, Will Crane and Andrew Crane; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Tom and his wife, Lois Crane; other relatives and friends.
