Alvin George Schnider, the son of Matt and Daisy (Nelson) Schnider, was born on November 23, 1934 in Lakefield, MN. He was raised and received his education in Everly, graduating in 1953. Following high school, he entered into the US Army. He served active duty for three years and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a technician. He was honorably discharged in 1962, achieving the rank of Specialist Third Class.
On July 31, 1960, Alvin married Joyce Van Hooser in Spencer, IA. Following their wedding, they lived in Spencer and two children were born from this union, Todd Allen in 1963 and Tamera Sue in 1969.
Alvin worked at Stolley’s Sand and Gravel for 15 years and then for Clay County in the maintenance department for 29 years until retirement. Alvin was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Coffee Club. He also enjoyed word finds, popcorn and crime and detective TV shows.
He passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce in 2016; and two sisters: Marlene Freeburg and Arlene Nichols.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Todd Schnider of Spencer, IA and Tamera Swarts (Chris) of Clayton, NC; three grandchildren: Drew, Emma and Jenna Swarts; four sisters: Mavis Applegate (Keith) of Columbus, NE, Norma Jans (Marvin) of Fostoria, IA, Joanne Thelen (Byron) of Milford, IA and Carol Steely (Roger) of Spencer, IA; one brother, Steve Schneider (Debbie) of Lincoln, NE; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
