GORDON CLEMENCE BRUNS 1937-2019

Gordon Clemence Bruns, the son of Clemence and Margaret (Westphal) Bruns, was born September 21, 1937 in Baker Township near Paullina, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Baker Township near Paullina, where he received his education at Baker Twsp. Country School, graduating from Paullina High School.

Gordon married Alta Handy on August 29, 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage, they raised their family in the communities of Paullina and Primghar, Iowa. They later moved to Royal, Iowa, and later Spencer, Iowa, where they made their home for several years. Gordon worked as a CNA along with Alta for 19 years at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, where they cared for many elderly residents throughout the years, until their retirement in 2002. They attended Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.

He passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the age of 82. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alta in 2017; and a son, Bradley in 1977.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Bruce Bruns and his wife, Sandy of Sheldon, IA, two daughters: Brenda Japenga and her husband, Dennis of Ruthven, IA and Bridgot Mace and her husband, Mike of Perry, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
