Burdette "Burt" Fogelman, age 80, of Webb, Iowa, died on Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

Burdette Wayne Fogelman, a son of Malcolm and Sarah (Husted) Fogelman was born on February 13, 1939 in Cherokee, Iowa. After starting his education in a one room country school in O’Brien county, Iowa, he attended high school in Royal and Webb, Iowa. In high school he participated in many activities including baseball, basketball, music, and 4-H. After graduating from Webb Consolidated High School in 1957, Burt joined the U.S. Navy. Trained as an electrician in the Navy, he worked on fighter jets.

On June 24, 1959, Burt married his high school sweetheart, Faith A. Cross, of Webb, Iowa. The first two years of their marriage, they spent in the Navy at Pensacola, Florida, and Warwick, Rhode Island. After serving in the Navy, Burt decided on electrical engineering as a career. However, Burt and Faith also had a dream to farm. While working for Spencer Construction, they had an opportunity to farm back in the Webb area. He loved working side by side with Faith, farming and raising a family.

Burt had a wonderful mind for creativity, ingenuity, and service. He loved designing and building things and was always thinking of ways to improve farm equipment. He built an addition to their farm home and built other buildings on their acreage. Moreover, he had a deep faith and a servant’s heart. Very active in the First Baptist Church of Webb, he served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. In addition, he enjoyed working with friends on community projects which included helping to build the Webb Community center. The family enjoyed summer trips to visit relatives in Virginia, Illinois, California and Europe.

Preceded in death by parents; his sisters: Betty (Al) Jensen, Marion (Don) Johnson, and Marilyn (Paul) Braunschweig, he is survived by Faith, his wife of 60 years; his son, Chad Fogelman; his daughter, Cindy Fogelman, of Illinois; his grandchildren: Brittney, Aaron, Kayla, and Brianna; and his brother, Ron Fogelman, of Spencer, Iowa; as well as by nieces, nephews, and their families.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Spencer, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Garfield Township Cemetery in Webb, Iowa. Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Open-Door Mission or the Samaritan's Purse. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
