Daniel Purl Johnson, the son of Jack and Lois (Rauhauser) Johnson, was born on January 29, 1952 in Spencer, IA. His childhood years were spent in the communities of Ruthven and Joliet, IL where he was baptized at the Hope Lutheran Church. The family then moved back to Ayrshire and eventually settled in Everly. He was confirmed at the Hope Lutheran Church. He finished his education there and graduated from Everly High School. Following high school, he entered into the military in August of 1972, serving in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in December of 1978. He then served in the National Guard for an additional year. After the military, Daniel returned to Everly and received a Carpentry diploma in 1983 from Iowa Lakes Community College.
He worked as a security guard in Arnolds Park at the amusement park. He then took a job at Polaris where he was a painter. He worked there until he retired in 2013. He enjoyed watching military programs, going to the rifle range and was an avid reader. He enjoyed going to casinos and playing cards, especially Mississippi Stud. He loved his dogs and entertaining his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; they were very important to him. Daniel also enjoyed gardening and giving his daughter’s financial tips.
Daniel passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at his residence at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack; his sister, Diane Heller; two brothers-in-law: Eugene Heller and Larry Miller and his nephew, Justin Miller.
Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Dana Wassom of Spencer, IA, Danielle Kepford (Jeremy) of Eden Prairie, MN, and Renee Close (Kevin) of Lone Jack, MO; 7 grandchildren: Megan, Garret, Abigail, Amelia, Nathaniel, Nickolas and Michelle; his mother, Lois Johnson of Everly, IA; 3 brothers: James Johnson (Dee) of Royal, IA, Terry Johnson (Rhonda) of Royal, IA, and Michael Johnson (Sandy) of Royal, IA; 3 sisters: Pam Miller of Everly, IA, Lynne Mills of Dickens, IA, and Donna Shuck of Spencer, IA; his foster brother, Russ Momsen (Sabrina) of Royal, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
