James 'Jim' Morony (1928-2017)

James Rutherford Morony, the son of Paul and Margaret (Rutherford) Morony, was born on February 24, 1928, in Burlington, IA. His family moved to Spencer when he was a child. He received his education here and graduated from high school in 1946. He then attended Iowa State for two years and then the University of Iowa for two years, graduating in 1950. He returned to Spencer where he worked with his father at Morony Clothing. He eventually took over the business.
Jim married Darlene Fideler on April 25, 1964 in Remsen, IA. Jim was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served on many boards and was a lector for 40 years. He was president of the United Way and Golden K. He served 15 years on the School Board, serving as president for one term. He also was a Railroad Hobbyist. Jim enjoyed attending, and was a big supporter of Spencer Tiger sporting events. He volunteered in the Spencer Schools helping students with their reading and mathematics.
He passed away at the Ruthven Care Center on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Darlene in 2008.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons: Paul of Spencer, IA, and his two children: Kyle Steven Edward and Madelynn, and their mother, Amanda Morony of Spencer, IA, and Michael of Iowa City, IA, and his children: Margaret and Benjamin, both students at the University of Iowa; one sister, Jean Whalen and her husband, Dan of Venice, FL; one nephew, Tim and his wife, Beth of Florida; other relatives and friends.
Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
