Mary Eloise (Swartz) Holl-Christensen was born on February 2, 1920 to Claude R. and Ruth (Thornton) Swartz in Estherville, Iowa. She graduated from Estherville High School and then attended one year of Junior College for Business and Education. Mary taught school for one year and then worked for the Estherville Creamery and Wadco.

She was united in marriage to Wesley Holl on November 30, 1939. To this marriage six children were born. Wesley passed away on March 20, 1965. Mary was united in marriage to Andrew Christensen on September 20, 1969. Andrew passed away on November 26, 1972.

Mary continued to live in Estherville, until moving to Spencer in 2004. Mary passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on February 27, 2017 at the age of 97 years.

Mary was a past member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville and a current member of First Congregational Church in Spencer. She enjoyed being a member of the Presbyterian Woman’s Group, Eastern Star North Star #200, and the Good Samaritan Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering her time with the Farm Bureau. In her free time, Mary liked to do crafts, enjoyed reading, and playing cards.

Mary is survived by her children Alan Holl; Janet Moote; Joyce Johnson; Carol (Gerald) Shaw; and David Holl; daughter-in-law O’Rita Holl; 11 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; son, Gerald; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Holl; son-in-law Norman Johnson; and brothers, Robert and Howard.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.
