Leonard Leon Bergeson, the son of Halvor and O'Lena (Aanonson) Bergeson, was born April 22, 1916 near Wallingford, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at Wallingford Lutheran Church, attended grade school in Wallingford, and graduated from Estherville High School in Estherville, IA.
He married (the late) Dorothy Damstrom in 1940 with whom he had two children, (the late) Pastor Dennis Bergeson, and Doreen (Bergeson) Bush.
Leonard served 3 years in World War II in several European countries (including Germany) with the 8th Armored Division. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Spencer, Iowa.
He did construction for 63 years having owned his own business building several churches, homes and office buildings.
Leonard and his wife, Dorothy, lived in Estherville, Pocahontas, and Spencer, Iowa.
They enjoyed church activities as members of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. The also enjoyed square dancing and spent several winters in Arizona.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (2003); his son, Dennis (2009); his parents; and all his siblings; half-sister, Clara Lee; sisters: Alma Richards, Nora Evenson and Sadie Lucille Lowe; brothers: Burt, Alfred, Herbert and Charley Bergeson, and a newborn brother.
Survivors are: daughter, Doreen (Dave) Bush of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren: Michael and Amy Bush and great-grandchild, Peyton Bush, all of Chandler, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements
