Thomas McBath was born in Center County, Pennsylvania, in April, 1835, being almost 82 years old at the time of his death. His father William McBath, and his mother Lucetta Coble were both Pennsylvanians. He was married to Angelinn Musleman on March 14, 1878, who survives him.
He as one of the thousands of young men who answered their countries call in 1862. On August 22nd of that year he inlisted [sic] at States College, Pennsylvania, in Company C, One hundred and Forty-eighth Pennsylvania Infantry, First Brigade First Division, Second Corps; served in battles of Chancellorsville, Haymarket, Gettysburg, Auburn Mills, Bristol, Kelly Ford, Wildnerness and Deep Bottom. He was transferred to the Third Company, Second Battalion Veteran Reserve Corps, August 14th, 1864, and was discharged at Washington, D.C., August 5th, 1865, on account of disability. He was one of th early settlers having settled in O'Brien County, Grant Township in 1870 where he lived at the time of his death. He was wounded five times and severely wounded at Deep Bottom on August [unreadable text].
[Unreadable text] W. Schee of Primghar, Iowa, swears this testimony; "You are one of the oldest of a very few who havce continually lived so long on the old Government Homestead. Grasshoppers nor wet seasons, nor [unreadable text] have induced you to leave [unreadable text]. Your army record and stability to a home entitles you to long [unreadable text], plenty, and comfort."
Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Friday and interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
