Obituary

Jeremiah Larkin Leslie was born in Allen county, Indiana, February 9, 1853 and passed away at the home of his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Lillian Baskin, in Peterson on February 2, 1940, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 24 days. He was the son of William and Sarah Leslie, the youngest child in a family of eleven children. When a child of three years, he moved with his parents to a farm near Janesville, Iowa, where they lived for many years.

In 1876 he was united in marriage to Elsie Jane Baskin, and to this union two children were born, Myrtle Belle and Paul R., both of whom preceded him in death.

After his marriage he continued to live in and around Janesville for several years, and then came to a farm near Webb, later moving to Peterson which he has called his home since that time. In November, 1917, following the death of his son, Paul, the family spent a few months in Asotin, Washington, and then returned to Peterson to reside. "Dad", as he was a known to countless numbers, was a member of the Methodist church.

Mr. Leslie had enjoyed fairly good health until Wednesday noon, when he was stricken with a paralytic stroke from which he never regained consciousness.

In passing he leaves to mourn his death two grandchildren, Burr of Center Point, Iowa, and Maxine of Marathon, and three great grandchildren, Roger Leslie of Center Point, and Billy and Jo Ellen Junkermeier of Marathon.
