Karle 'Kay' H. Breidinger, the daughter of Calvert James and Julia Caroline (Shaw) Mitchell, was born November 5, 1916 on a farm near Cornell, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from high school in Sioux Rapids, IA. After graduation she worked in Spencer as a nanny for the Tangney family followed by a dental assistant position for Dr. Lippold and then later as the office manager for optometrist C.A. Hooven of Spencer.

Kay married Joseph Edward Breidinger on September 19, 1948 in Jackson, MN. They made their home in Spencer where they raised a family and Kay later went to work for the Spencer Schools preparing and serving lunches for 10 years.

Kay and her husband Joe were members in the Iowa Great Lakes Antique Automobile Club and she remained active in the club after her husband's passing driving her 1929 Dodge Sedan in parades and club activities.

Kay's faith was a priority in her life and she set a lifelong example of that faith to her family and others. She was a longtime member of First English Lutheran Church where she served faithfully on the Alter Guild Committee and as church librarian.

She will be remembered by family and friends as a strong loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She had a wonderful smile and loved to 'visit' whenever an opportunity presented itself.

Kay passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the age of 96.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Breidinger Sr.; parents, Calvert & Julia Mitchell; sisters and brothers-in-law Crystal and Leon Grote, Forest and Hardie Ball, Jean Ann Bussell and brother Calvert 'Bud' Mitchell.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Karen (Ken) Kahley of Spencer; sons: Joe Jr. (Toby) Breidinger, Jr. of Anchorage, AK, and Dan (Mary) Breidinger of Davenport, IA. In addition to grandchildren, Brad (Sarah) Kahley of St. Paul, MN, Mark (Heather) Kahley of Spencer, IA, Stephen Kahley of Denver, CO, Jennifer Breidinger of Juneau, AK, Adam (Fritha) Breidinger of Anchorage, AK and Molly Breidinger of Davenport, IA, as well as 8 great-grandchildren, 15 nieces and nephew and brother-in-law Eldon 'Dewey' Bussell of Port Angeles, WA.
