Esther Lillian Prange was born April 3, 1920, to Harry and Tracy Vander Schaaf on a farm near Doon, IA. In 1926, the family moved to Hull, IA. After graduating from the public school, she worked in the local cafe.

Esther married Gerrit Prange on December 9, 1944.

After his discharge, he worked briefly in Spirit Lake, IA, and then was transferred to Sheldon, IA. She was a homemaker during this time. They moved to Spencer in 1954. Since the church was fairly new and small, they were both involved in many activities and positions with the church.

Esther worked at Johnson Elementary School in the lunch department. After retiring, she volunteered with the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary.

Esther passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA, at the age of 92.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit; parents, Harry and Tracy Vander Schaaf; brother, Robert; and sisters: Mildred, Marjorie and Genevive.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Jay (Carolyn) Prange of Spencer, IA; daughter, Arlys (John) Hall of Ankeny, IA; four grandsons: Mike (Cheri) Prange of Spencer, IA, Brian (Angie) Prange of Fostoria, IA, Andy (Cindy) Hall of Maxwell, IA, and Ben (Andrea) Hall of Ankeny, IA; great-grandchildren: Mike (Tiarra) Prange and Heather Prange of Spencer, IA, Matthew Prange of Iowa City, IA, Keegan Mitchell of Fostoria, IA, Sam and Anna Marie Hall of Maxwell, IA, and Ginny Hall of Ankeny, IA; great-great-grandchildren: Taneisha and Aajan of Spencer, IA; two brothers: Harlan of Arkansas, and Dennis of Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
