Mrs. Shatto Laid to Rest January 12

Passed Away Sunday at Sacramento, California

Last respects were paid Mrs. David Shatto, 66, in funeral services held last Friday afternoon, January 12, at two o'clock at the Grace M.E. church. Mrs. Shatto died suddenly at Sacramento, Calif., Sunday morning, January 7, at 1:25 a.m. of a heart ailment. She had been ailing only a week, and had not been confined to her bed.

She had retired for the night, and about an hour prior to her death she arose. Members of the family inquired about her health, but she seemed to be feeling well. She again retired, and when her sister-in-law with whom she was sleeping attempted to converse with her, she found that she had peacefully passed away.

Rev. Hammerle Conducts

Rev. Edgar Hammerle of the Arnolds Park Methodist church conducted the services, assisted by Dr. H.E. Hutchinson, local M.E. pastor, and Rev. M.M. Schaper, pastor of the Fostoria church. The auditorium was filled with Mrs. Shatto's many friends. About her bier was an array of floral tributes speaking the esteem held by the community of a woman who was held in high regard among her friends, neighbors and in the church.

Musical requiem was by Mrs. Fred Eachen, Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Terry and J.E. Mitts, with Miss Georgianna Beving at the piano.

Casket bearers were C.E. Johnson, I.G. Bleeker, George Huismann and Edgar Chadwick. Interment was in Summit township cemetery.

Lived in Sac County

Susan Heneman was born in Cumberland county, Pa., July 9, 1867, and came to Sac county, Iowa, with her mother in 1881. May 26, 1884, at Odebolt she was united in marriage to David Shatto.

They lived on a farm there unitl 1886 when they moved to the state of Kansas. In 1892 they returned to Sac county and farmed there until the year of 1901 when they located on a farm in Clay county. They made this place their residence until December 3, 1932, when they left for Sacramento, Calif., to care for Mr. Shatto's only sister whose husband had passed away suddenly about a year and a half ago. They had planned to return to Fostoria this spring.

13 Children Survive

Mrs. Shatto was 66 years, six month and two days of age. Her death was the first in the immediate family. She was a faithful member of the Fostoria M.E. church.

Surviving in the immediate family are her husband, David Shatto, and 13 children: William Shatto of Worthington, Minn., David Shatto of Stillwater, Winn.; Lester Shatto of Omaha, Neb.; Kenneth Shatto of Sacramento, Calif.; Luther Shatto, Glenn Shatto, Ray Shatto, Mrs. W.A. Lauck, Mrs. John Snyder, Mrs. M.L. Meyer, Mrs. Joe Beving, Mrs. Otto Peterson and Mrs. G.E. Lowe, all of this vicinity. They were all present for the last rites. Also mourning the passing of Mrs. Shatto are 27 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. C.D. Miller and Mrs. Laura Tolle, both of Spencer.

Out of town relatives present at the services were Mrs. Carrie Heneman and sons, Porter and Russell, and daughter, Mrs. Bill Konklin, of Estherville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stevens of Boyd, Minn.; Claude Stevens of Estherville; Mrs. Christina Heneman and daughters, Mrs. Ada Thorps and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Boltman, of Hudson, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Morrell of Livermore, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller of Dickens; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Nissch of Langdon; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shatto of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. William Shatto of Worthington, Minn.; and D.C. Shatto of Stillwater, Minn.
