Leva Maureen Franker, 91, of Spencer, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a brief illness.

Leva was born in rural Royal, Iowa on February 7, 1918, to Mauritz D. and Hazel (Keene) Beck. Leva was an only child. Leva attended school in Chillicothe, Missouri and earned her teaching certificate after which she taught for one year.

Leva married Gail E. Franker on August 3, 1938. The two resided in the Royal community where they farmed and raised their family. In addition to being a homemaker, Leva was a 4-H Leader and substitute bus driver. Leva moved from the Royal family farm to Spencer in 2001. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeye's and Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed game shows.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles and Auxiliary were an integral part of Leva's life. She served as Iowa State Eagle Auxiliary President in 1958-59. In 1997, she researched and compiled a history of the Iowa State Auxiliary and continued to update supplements to this each year.

She was preceded in death by her husband and infant son, David.

She is survived by her four children: Gayleen Means, Spencer; Sandra Beving (Darrell), Dickens; Sherry Blomberg (Larry), Urbandale; and Dan Franker (Linda), Urbandale. As well, she is survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great- grandchildren; other extended family and numerous friends.
