Ellen Roberts Davies, 1865-1929

A victim of the same disease that claimed her brother, R.H. Roberts, in death two weeks ago, Mrs. Ellen Davies of Ashton, South Dakota, former resident of Linn Grove, died Friday morning, December 6, 1929, at her home in Ashton, following an illness of several months. Death was caused from cancer of the stomach. She was 64 years, 6 months and 26 days of age at the time of her death.

The body was brought to Spencer Sunday morning, and short funeral rites were held at the chapel of the Cobb Funeral home at two o'clock. Dr. Herbert Clegg, pastor of the Grace Methodist Episcopal church of Spencer, officiated at the services, and burial was made in the Pioneer cemetery near Linn Grove.

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford McIntyre and son, Roger, and Miss Gladys Davies, of Ashton, accompanied the body to Spencer for burial, remaining here until Tuesday when they left to return to their homes. Mrs. McIntyre and Miss Gladys are daughters of the deceased woman.

Resident of Linn Groive and vicinity for many years, Mrs. Davies will be remembered by many as Miss Ellen Roberts. Her birthplace was in Columbus, Wisconsin. She moved with her family more than eleven years ago to South Dakota which had since been their home. Her husband, the Rev. B.R. Davies, was a member of the ministry for many years, and preceded her in death about thirty-five years ago.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Clifford McIntyre and Miss Gladys Davies of Ashton, one grandson, one brother, John H. Roberts of Flandreau, South Dakota, and three sisters, Mrs. Ann Jones of Linn Grove, Mrs. Margaret Dubois of Redfield, South Dakota, Mrs. Jane Dean of Peterson, other relatives and a host of friends.
