One of Spencer's most highly esteemed older residents, Mrs. Nels Vestergaard, passed away Wednesday evening, February 1, 1933. She was 84 years of age, and had spent the past 26 years in Spencer. For the past two months the deceased woman had been failing rapidly in health, and old age and heart disease were causes contributing to her death.

Funeral services were held at the Bethany Lutheran church at 1:30 o'clock Saturday, February 4, with Rev. K. Nyegaard, pastor of the church, officiating. The choir gave two selections, "Taenk Naar Engang Den Taage er Forsvendun" and "No Night There," with Mrs. Adolph Erickson at the piano.

Pall bearers were N.M. Jensen, William Lukins, A.P. Nelson, Lorens Larson, R.M. Henrickson and H.P. Sorensen. Interment was in Riverside cemetery, Spencer.

Kristina Jensen Ostergaard was born June 28, 1848, at Sejistrup Mark, Vendsyssel, Denmark, the daughter of Jens and Johanna Ostergaard.

She was united in marriage to Nels Vestergaard March 7, 1872. They came to America in March 1891, and located at Moorhead, Ia., where they lived until 1907 when they moved to Spencer which has since been their home.

Baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, Mrs. Vestergaard was a faithful and active member up until the time of her death. She was affiliated with the Bethany Lutheran church.

The sixtieth wedding anniversary of the couple was celebrated March 4.

The deceased woman leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Nels Vestergaard; three children, Mrs. Stina Johnson of Moorhead, Ia., Andrew and John Vestergaard of Spencer; seven grandchildren, Joseph Johnson of Rolfe, Moses Johnson and Esther Sorensen of Moorhead, Ia., Lydia Sorensen and Dorothy Isacson of Bradgate, Ia., Helen Vestergaard of Chicago and Adolph Vestergaard of Spencer; eight great grandchildren, and a host of friends. A daughter, Mary, died March 1, 1916.
