July 20, 1993Leonard William Beck, 82, of Spencer and formerly of Dickens, died July 20 at the Ruthven Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on the July 24, at the Warner Chapel with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating.
Casket Bearers: David Gustin, Brent Gustin, Larry Chapman, Louis Chapman, Gene Chapman and Ted McCord.
Masonic services were conducted by Highland Lodge No. 487 of Ruthven on Friday night. Military services will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 American Legion.
Burial will be in the Dickens Cemetery.
The son of William Willford and Sarah Elizabeth Brown Beck, he was born June 25, 1911 at Barnum, Minnesota. His childhood years were spent in Gillett Grove, where he received his early education. Following his schooling, he entered the military.
On June 30, 1934, he married Pearl D. Middagh in Spencer. Throughout their life, they lived in Dickens, where Mr. Beck worked with the Iowa Fish and Game Department and later in the Clay County Engineer's Department and as a bailiff, until he
he retired in 1973.Mr. Beck was a member of the Dickens United Methodist Church, Highland Masonic Lodge No. 487 of Ruthven and American Legion Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.
Survivors include one son and his wife, George and Delberta Beck of Aloha, Oregon; one daughter, Janice Gustin of Spencer; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother George S Beck of Lakewood, California; and one sister, Erma James of Lakewood, California
