Funeral services for Albert Abler,81, of Royal were held on Wednesday, April 4, 1990 at 1:30 pm, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal. Rev. Eugene Schumacher officiated. Mr. Abler died Thursday at the Mesa Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Arizona.

Casket Bearers; Richard Nelson, Russell Kuehl, Ned Adams, Larry Nelson, David Selzer and Jack Cuttell.

Honorary Casket Bearers; Kenneth Emmert, Harry Adams, Everett Steffen, Lyle Larsen, George Baxter, George Selzer and Myron Swanson.

A vigil service was held at St. Louis Catholic Church on Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm. Military services were performed by the American Legion Goodwin Post No. 248 of Royal.

Burial was at North Lawn Cemetery, at Spencer and Warner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Abler was born November 2, 1908 in Hoven, South Dakota to Carl and Margaret Hoffman Abler. He spent all of his early years on a farm near Hoven and it was there he received his education.

He entered the Army on May 12, 1942 at Ft. Des Moines, Iowa and was married to Naomi Trent on November 18, 1942, while still in service.

After his discharge on September 13, 1945. Mr. Abler worked again for Hale Grain and later for Al Johnson's Implement Company. He then purchased the Standard Oil Station in Royal, where he was in business for 21 years, before selling out October 1, 1969. Following his retirement, the Ablers spent the winter months in Arizona.

Mr. Abler was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal, the City Council, the Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce, was a fire chief, a member of Holy Name Society, the Church Board and a past commander of the American Legion and other Legion offices for many years.

He preceded in death by his one son.

Mr. Abler is survived by his wife; one brother, Martin; and one sister, Mary; and many friends.
