Webb, IowaHelen Christine Sophia Mossengren, the daughter of Carl and Valborg Johnson, was born June 9, 1920, near Rossie, IA. Her family moved to the Webb, IA, community in 1921, where she lived the remainder of her life. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1937.
Helen married Carl (Bart) Bartelson on October 12, 1940, in Northwood, IA. They lived their entire married life in Webb where she worked for a veterinarian, Dr. Vernon Walsh, for 13 years. She also worked as a postal clerk and later as a postmaster for the U. S. Post Office. Carl passed away on July 11, 1975.
Following Carl's death, she continued working as a postmaster for six more years until her retirement in January of 1981.
Helen married Richard Mossengren on August 27, 1977.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Webb, and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and traveling.
Helen passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA, on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the age of 92.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands: Carl in 1975 and Richard in 1984; one sister, Olga Magnussen; and one brother-in-law, Cleo Hopkins.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons: Larry Bartelson and wife, Teresa of Sunland, CA, and John Bartelson of Des Moines, IA; granddaughter, Shelly Bartelson and 4 other grandchildren; great- granddaughter, Briana Bartelson; one stepson, Gary Mossengren and wife, Liz of LeMars, IA; one stepdaughter, Mary Lynn Hales; two step grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Dorothy; other relatives and friends.
