James Roy Mills Sr., the son of James "Roy" Mills and Darlene (Boardman) Mills, was born June 2nd, 1940 at the family home outside of Webb Iowa. He spent his entire life in the Webb area. He attended school in Webb and was a member of the class of 1958. He showed hogs and Black Angus cattle at the Clay County Fair. At the age of 18 he took over the family farm business until having to serve in the military.

In 1962 he went to serve for the United States Army 728th Military Police Battalion in Korea.

On January 31st 1964 he married Judith (Anderson) at Elk Baptist Church north of Alta Iowa. They farmed in the Webb area with his brother Kevin. To this marriage a son and daughter were born and were an important part of his life. He enjoyed hunting coyote and fox and would frequently do this every time it snowed.

Later he began an excavating company "Mills Construction", where he did dirt work for most of the Webb and surrounding area. Jim was never afraid to work and instilled this value on his family. Jim and Judy divorced but have remained friends.

His one area of interest was car racing. In 1980 he built and owned a late model car - #10. Family and friends would travel all summer long to various tracks in Iowa, Missouri, and Minnesota. This love of racing continued until his sudden death. In the later years this love of racing was shown with Stacey and Jeremy Mills and their modified cars (10E and 10). His son Jimmy also had a hobby stock car the 11M. Jim would never watch a race at the track but would ALWAYS watch the video afterwards when he knew the "boys" were safe. Not until Jimmy started racing with the Good Old Time Racing Association did Jim start watching races; when he thought the cars were "a little bit safer". The group of gentleman and their families became a big part of his life.

Jim had 7 grandchildren that were the light of his life. He would always keep track of what they were doing and where they were going. He enjoyed talking to them, visiting and listening to their stories and accomplishments. The smile on his face would always show that proudness he felt. He also felt the same way about his nieces and nephews.

In the past years he spent with his special friend Elaine Thu. They traveled and were making plans to do more of that in the years to come. You would frequently find them going on "day trips", mainly to get parts or something. They enjoyed this time together.

In recent years Jim reunited with his daughter Caroline Kresal and her family.

Jim passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the age of 68. He is preceded in death by his father James "Roy" Mills, nieces Dawn Wheeler and Pam Holloway, great niece Makinley Mills, and half brothers Warren Mills and Harvey Mills. and half sisters Wanda Smith and Shirley White.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother Darlene Mills of Webb Iowa, Son James (Nancy) Mills and daughters Katie, Molly and Jessica of Webb IA, Daughter Julie (Chad) Remmers and Logan and Dayton of Melvin Iowa, Special Friend Elaine Thu of Webb Iowa, Brothers Kevin (Wendy) Mills of Marathon, IA, Bryce Mills of Hot Springs, SD, Sisters: Karen (Leland) Franklin of Odessa, MO., Colleen (Richard) Burt of Urbandale, IA, Kathy (Jean) Linn of Des Moines, IA, and LuAnn (John) Reese of Laurens, IA. and daughter, Caroline Kresal and Stephen and Allison of Duluth, MN; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
