MRS. C.C. LARSEN DIED WEDNESDAY
EARLY DEMISE OF WELL KNOWN WOMAN WAS CAUSED BY CANCER
Mrs. C.C. Larsen, a resident of Meadow township, Clay county, for the past 23 years, died at her home last Wednesday evening at 11 o'clock at the age of 52 years, 6 months and 26 days. Her death was caused by a cancer.
For the past three months, Mrs. Larsen had been a patient and silent sufferer and although everything possible was done to relieve her suffering it was to no avail.
Martha Marie Elise Stephenson was born in Racine, Wisconsin, June 19, 1877. At an early age the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where they lived until the mother's death. After the death of Mrs. Stephenson, the children were taken to the home of their uncle and aunt. Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Stephenson of Vermillion, South Dakota, who provided a good Christian home for the motherless children. Here the deceased grew into young womanhood, was educated in the public schools and started her life career as a school teacher.
Taught at Elk Horn
In the fall of 1898 she went to Elk Horn, Iowa, where she spent several years as a student and teacher in the Elk Horn college. She also taught in the parochial schools in the neighborhood.
It was there that she met and on June 26, 1907, was united in marriage to Carl C. Larsen. Following their marriage they came to Clay county, Iowa, and settled on a farm northwest of Spencer, which has since been their home.
Three children were born to this union. Marjorie Lucille, Oliver Carl and Kenneth Edward, all at home, who with their father are left to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted wife and mother.
Mrs. Larsen was a faithful member of the Bethany Lutheran church where she will long be remember by her work as a teacher of the Junior Bible class. She will also be remembered for her willingness to assist in the work of Ladies Aid and Missionary Societies.
Relatives Mourn
Besides her husband and family, Mr. Larsen is survived by her sister, Mrs. R.H. Beck of Spencer; a brother, H.C. Stephenson of Denver, Colorado, a cousin, Mrs. J. B. Jaeger of Vermillion, South Dakota, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:45 at the Bethany Lutheran church. Rev. K. Nyegaard had charge of the services. Prior to the services at the church a short prayer was delivered at the home at one o'clock. Burial was made in the cemetery in Meadow township.
Out of town relatives at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. P.M. Kruse and daughter, Miss Ariel of Chicago, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Shordahl, Miss Leone, Miss Agnes and Melvin Jaeger all of Vermillion, South Dakota.
