Mrs. Grace Webb Called

The community was startled Monday by the announcement that Mrs. Grace Webb had died early that morning of paralysis, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Peeso, near this city. Up to Saturday she had been in her usual health; that day she complained of a headache and took to her bed but it was not thought anything serious was the matter with her. Sunday morning it was seen that she had in a large measure lost the power of speech, and her condition was critical. She lingered along till between 2 and 3 o'clock Monday morning, when her spirit departed for the eternal world.

Funeral services were held yesterday, at 2:30, at the M.E. church, Dr. Yetter conducting the exercises. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Webb, whose maiden name was Grace Stevens, was born in Cornwall, England, August 23d, 1826, and was 76 years, 9 months and 14 days old when she died. In 1845 she was married to Henry Webb, and a year or two later, came with him to the United States, settling in Pennsylvania, in 1856 moving to Wisconsin. In 1874 they moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, and four years later, moved to Clay county, settling on a farm about three miles north of Spencer. In 1890 her husband died, after which she and her daughter, Miss Flora, made their home in Spencer until the daughter's marriage to L.B. Peeso, since which she made her home with them.

Mrs. Webb was a lady of remarkable character, combining all the better qualities in an unusual degree. She was especially strong and earnest in her religious character. Converted in early life, she continued her earnest Christian work to the end. She was of a happy, cheerful disposition and radiated sunshine and happiness wherever she went. Three sons and one daughter--W.H. Webb of Gettysburg, S.D., J.A. Webb of Conrad, Iowa, J.B. Webb of Spencer and Mrs. Lewis Peeso of Spencer, together with wide circle of friends, mourn her loss.
