Andrew Mattson was horn in Malma Sweden, Oct. 2, 1848. Died at Dickens, Iowa, Feb. 28, 1918. Age 69 years, 4 months, 26 days. He was married to Engel Larson in 1872. Seven children were born to this union, two boys and five girls, Mrs. Mattson and four children have preceded the husband and father into the great beyond. Two girls and one boy survive the father. One girl resides in Sweden, one in Chicago, and Andrew Anderson, who resides about two and one-half miles southeast of Dickens.
Mr. Mattson came to America in 1895 and has made his home with his son Andrew, most of the time since. Religiously he was a Lutheran, having been confirmed in that church at a tender age. He only lacked about seven months of having lived his alloted span, three score years and ten. So the hand of death with sickle has been withheld for a long time, but in keeping with the cycle of years it came and paid its visit. And we have said good bye. The funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church on Saturday, March 2, at 2 o'clock. Interment in the Dickens cemetery.
