Kent Douglas Smith, the son of Raymond and Flossie (Wright) Smith, was born July 17, 1945 in Spencer, Iowa. He received his early education and graduated from the Spencer High School.

Kent entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963 and he was stationed in Weisbaden, Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1967, Kent returned to Spencer.

Kent was united in marriage to Eva Borseth in Windom, MN, in 1969.

Following their marriage he went to work for Safeway Foods, Inc. until 1980. He also worked for American Family Insurance for seven years. In 1995, Kent worked at Longhouse Residence where he met his life partner, Jody Waddell.

In his free time Kent enjoyed GoldWing Motorcycles, gardening, and computers, but most of all he loved his family and friends. He also enjoyed being a D.J. at DreamWorld Skating where the children loved coming to see him.

On July 23, 2008, Kent passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Kenneth Smith, who died in infancy, and Bob and Tom Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his lifelong partner, Jody Waddell of Spencer, IA; two sons: Travis (Jamie Boldt) Smith of Mountain Lake, MN, Scott (Connie) Smith of Butterfield, MN; Jodys three children, who Kent jokingly referred to as his spare children: Brandi Waddell of Spencer, IA, Danielle Waddell of Spencer, IA, Nathan Waddell, of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren: Caitlyn, Zoey, and Daniel Smith, Landon and Khya Boldt; two sister-in-law, Shirley Smith of Spencer, IA, Elsie Smith of Oregon; as well as many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
