Fostoria Woman Commits Suicide

Mrs. H. W. Eggers Takes Life by Hanging While Temporarily Demented

Mrs. H. W. Eggers, well known Clay county resident living a half mile west of Fostoria, was found dead by members of her family about seven o'clock Wednesday morning. Mrs. Eggers had been suffering from pernicious anemia for some time and while temporarily deranged Saturday morning went out into the yard and hanged herself to a tree in the yard. She was out of sight of members of her family for but ten minutes but was dead when found. County Coroner J. M. Sokol was called but no inquest was held.

Bertha Heikens Eggers was born at Ackley, Iowa, April 4, 1870, and at the time of her death was 52 years and 7 months of age. She grew to womanhood at Ackley and was married there May 3, 1891. to Mr. Henry Eggers. After living for a short time at Ackley, following their marriage, they came to Clay county and have lived here since that time.

Mrs. Eggers Is survived by her husband and the following children; Mrs. Torana Damerow, Lansing, Iowa; Mrs. Hurley Jones, Fostoria, Iowa; the Misses Pearl and Gertie, Herman, Harlan and Marion Eggers, Fostoria. Mrs. Eggers is also survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Anna Heikens at Ackley, Iowa, who has been in failing health for the past several months, and by four brothers and six sisters, Harry, William, Richard and Isaac Heikens, Mrs. D. E. Beving, Mrs. D. U. Beving, Mrs. H. A. Miller, Mrs.. Fred Tjaden, all living near Fostoria, and Mrs. B. Bleeker and Mrs. J. Cobje at Ackley. Mrs. Bleeker is a twin sister of Mrs. Eggers. Another sister, Mrs. J. Kraemer, died at her home in Ackley about three years ago.

The funeral services were conducted Monday at Fostoria in charge of the Rev. Branch, after which the remains were taken to Ackley where further services were conducted Tuesday and interment made In Hazel Green cemetery at Abbott, Iowa.
