Larry Eldon McKeever was born in Clay County, Douglas Township, Linn Grove, Iowa on April 23, 1936 to Everett Wayne and Vila Mary (Walker) McKeever. Larry attended first grade at the age of five as one of two students in the class. Larry graduated from Royal Community High School in 1953. After graduating, Larry did some traveling, working on a ranch in California breaking horses, and other odd jobs.

Larry then served with the U.S. Army stationed in Boblingen, Germany with an Honorable Discharge in 1958. Following his time in the Army, Larry returned home to help with the family farming, and other local farmers.

Larry began working at the Quaker Oats Elevator in Royal as a feed truck driver, where he met his true love, Sharon LaRae Goettsche. Larry and Sharon were married on September 17, 1961, on a glorious day at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. In 1964, Larry and Sharon moved from Royal to Spencer and Larry began working for Buena Vista Rural Electric Cooperative. In 1995, Larry was forced to retire from Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative due to ongoing health issues.

Larrys greatest interests were his family, grandkids, hunting and fishing, and his many close friends. He enjoyed jokes on and with his friends and family.

Larry was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, and very much enjoyed serving lunches at Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School, volunteer work at church, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Larry received a single lung transplant on August 3, 2000, and was very thankful for the last seven years. Through his strong faith, he reached salvation.

Larry passed away at his home in Spencer on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the age of 71. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Nancy Long; a grandson, Kolby Larry McKeever and two brothers-in-law, Bill Long and Bill Goettsche.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon of Spencer; three sons and their families: Mitch, Laura, Nathan and Megan of Sac City, Iowa; Dr. Tom, Pam, Tyler, Alexis and Courtney of Mukwanago, Wisconsin and Doyle, Tammy, Kade and Konner of Spencer, Iowa; a sister, Ardis Long of Mesa, Arizona; his mother-in-law, June Goettsche of Spencer; his father-in-law, Hans Goettsche of Fernley, Nevada; sister-in-laws, Joanne Goettsche of Richmond, California, Kelly Goettsche of Lucerne, Colorado and Candy and her husband, Mark Galbraith of Storm Lake, Iowa; several nephews, nieces and cousins and many friends.
