Iris Marie Erickson, the daughter of William and Clara (Hovinga) Taylor, was born on a farm near Webb, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Webb area and she graduated from Webb High School with the class of 1938. After graduation, she took a post-graduate course in business.

Music was always a great part of her life, especially the piano. She started being a church pianist in high school and continued being a church pianist and organist in various towns well into her 80s. Before her marriage, she worked as a teller at the Citizens National Bank of Webb for 3 and a half years and also gave piano lessons.

Iris married Claire Erickson on June 3, 1945, and to this union one son, Greg was born. During their marriage, Iris worked as a school secretary for her husband, who was superintendent of schools. She was also an Avon representative for 15 years and served as the Kanawha town clerk for one year. Iris had a long time hobby of keeping a diary since she was 13 years old. All these diaries were still in her possession at the time of her death.

On Sunday, January 6, 2008, Iris passed away at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer. Her parents, her husband, an infant sister and her sister, Dorothy Tjebben preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Greg of Spencer, IA; brother-in-law, Bert Tjebben of Laurens, IA; her aunt Gladys Hovinga of Peoria, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
