Spencer, IowaElizabeth Jo Stephas, the daughter of Wilbur and Grace (Smock) Schulze, was born September 7, 1945 in Sherburn, MN. Her childhood years were spent in Sherburn, where she received her elementary education. Her family moved to Spencer, Iowa, where she attended Sacred Heart Catholic School during her middle school years and later graduated from Spencer High School.
Elizabeth married Orville E. Stephas on June 6, 1969 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Spencer, where she worked at St. Luke Lutheran Home until her retirement in September of 2004 after 25 years of employment. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Elizabeth also was a Girl Scout leader and was active in the bowling league. She loved going to casinos and taking vacations with her family.
Mrs. Stephas passed away at her home in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, August 17, 2007 at the age of 61. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace & Wilbur Schulze; two grandchildren: Adam Stephas and Margarita Martinez and a nephew, Thomas Tielbur.
She is survived by her husband, Orville of Spencer; 1 daughter, Jody and her husband, Oscar Martinez of Storm Lake, IA; 1 son, Troy Stephas and his wife, Diane of North Mankato, MN; four grandchildren: Sheena, Erick, Kari and Nathan; two sisters: Patricia and her husband, Edward (Bud) Stonacek of Clarkson, NE and Kathleen and her husband, Harvey Tielbur of Spencer; other relatives and many friends.
