Spencer, IowaBernice Kathleen Jackson, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Brennan, was born August 17, 1907, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She received her early education in Emmetsburg where she graduated from high school in 1926. Bernice attended Iowa State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught country school in the Graettinger area.
On June 16, 1932, Bernice married Robert Roland Jackson at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. They spent the early years of their marriage in Ida Grove, IA, before moving to Spencer in 1937.
Bernice was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America where she held various offices.
In her spare time, Bernice enjoyed Dance Club La Danza, traveling with her husband, playing cards with friends and spending time with her family at their lake home on West Okoboji.
Mrs. Jackson passed away at Northshire Residence in Spencer on May 3, 2007, at the age of 99. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland on August 22, 1987; two sons, William and Robert; one grandson, Danny; six sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary O'Brien and her husband, Thomas of Spencer, IA; her son, James Jackson and his wife, Connie of Spirit Lake, IA; two daughters-in-law, Melva Jackson of Lake City, IA, and Mary Jackson of Spencer, IA; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, James Clark of Chicago, IL; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Brennan and Betty Brennan, both of Emmetsburg, IA; other relatives and friends.
