Adam Szack, the son of George and Elizabeth (Meinhard) Szack, was born August 5, 1910 in Altenbugg, Germany. He was raised in Hungary and received his early education in Tof and Banward area in Hungary.

Adam married Elizabeth Tewald on April 20, 1933 in Mekenyes, Hungary. Following their marriage, they owned and operated a wagon and carriage business in Hungary. They also spent four years in Austria, where he worked in a steel mill. They came to the United States in 1951, and made their home in Spencer. Adam worked as a carpenter for Spencer Construction for 24 years, until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Adam enjoyed deer hunting with his son-in-law, fishing and especially spending time with his family.

Mr. Szack passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth on April 25, 1987; two brothers: John and George; a son-in-law, Hugh Flannegan in 1999 and a grandson, Steven in 2002.

He is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth Flannegan of Emmetsburg, IA and Katharina and her husband, Merlin Johnson of Spirit Lake, IA; one granddaughter, Lisa Kobernusz of Boone, IA; five grandsons: John, Robert and Michael Flannegan all of Emmetsburg, IA, Jeffrey Johnson of Spirit Lake, IA and Gary Johnson of Miami, FL; five great grandchildren: Benjamin Roghair, Adam, Luke and Danielle Flannegan and Katie Lynn; five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
