Spencer, IowaLola Lela Dethlefsen, the daughter of Chris and Matilda Lenz, was born September 13, 1908 in Wall Lake, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Wall Lake. When she was a child, she moved with her family to their farm home near Early, Iowa, where she received her education, graduating from Early Consolidated School.
Lola married Carl Dethlefsen on February 28, 1931 in Gowrie, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived on their farm near Greenville for all of their married life. She was an active member of the Greenville Congregational Church, where she served all offices of the Fellowship, taught Sunday school, Bible school, sang in the choir and served as clerk on the church board. She also was an active member of the Greenville community as a member of the Craft Club, the Service Club and most recently the Greenville Home Circle Club for many years, which she continued her membership in during her years in Spencer, holding her last office in the club at 81 years old. Following her husbands death, Lola moved to Spencer, where she was a member of the First Congregational Church.
Lola passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the age of 97. Her parents and her husband, Carl in 1979, preceded her in death.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
