Ethel Clarken of Spencer Iowa was born July 31, 1932 in Spirit Lake to George and Fern Brand Prentice. Ethel married John Raymond Clarken on April 23, 1948. They farmed land one mile north of Greenville until John passed away in 1988. She moved to Spencer one year later and has lived there since then.

She passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 25, 2011 from an aneurism. She was 79 years old. She was preceded in her death by her parents, a brother Harlan Prentice, a sister Mary, her husband and her daughter, Jean Ann Clarken.

She was a president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Spencer and an active member for many years. She also was active in the Eagles drill team and bowling league, winning state competitions. Her frank, caring and unassuming nature made her well liked and respected by all who knew her.

Ethel was much loved and will be deeply missed by her four sons: Dale, Fort Collins, CO; Rodney, Marquette, MI; Lee, Atlantic, IA; and Russ, Adel, IA; 10 grandchildren: Ziya, Rehema, Jacob, Lua, John V.A., Tara, Nicole, John P., Kayla and Cassie; 11 great grand children and many friends.
