Harry Richard Adams, son of Russell and Hannah (Siefken) Adams, was born on July 28, 1918 near Rossie, Iowa. He died of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma on May 20, 2011 at the age of 92 years 9 months and 22 days. He attended Rossie School, graduating with the class of 1937. He was very active in baseball and basketball in high school and was pitcher and outfielder. He played in the Clay County Tournament and won the championship game in 1936 as the winning pitcher. After high school, he played baseball on the Rossie town team for many years.

He grew up on the farm with his parents, paternal grandparents and 7 brothers and sisters. He worked with his father and brothers farming, corn shelling, baling hay, lumber sawing and threshing with steam engines. In the fall of 1939, he picked corn by hand for 4 cents a bushel, picking 120 bushel a day filling the wagon twice. He used the money he earned to go on a trip with friends to California in a 1930 Model T Ford.

On September 5, 1943, he married Naomi Jespersen of Royal at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Harry and Naomi farmed for over 41 years near Royal. Harry also did custom corn shelling. Harry and Naomi were blessed with 3 children: Nancy Kay, Ned J. and Jean Carol. The family was active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Harry served on the church council and served on the Lincoln Township ASC committee for 10 years. He enjoyed school and church activities of his children and grandchildren. As a family, they enjoyed boating and many activities together at the farm and at the lakes, as well as, driving his 1947 Dodge pickup in parades. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends. Faith, family and friends were very important to him. In 1986, Harry and Naomi had their farm sale and moved to Wahpeton at Lake Okoboji and were members of First Lutheran Church. His cat 'Tiger' was very special in his retirement years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Naomi of Wahpeton; his son, Ned and his wife, Donna of Ankeny; his daughter, Jean Ferneding of Manning; his grandchildren: Joshua and Nicholas Adams of Austin, TX, Kelly Ferneding of Dallas, TX and John Ferneding of Ames; his sister, Lucille Rusk of Dickens, IA; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy; his parents: Russell and Hannah; brothers: Tom, Pete and Bill; sisters: Helen Mills, Marian King and Marjorie Thomsen; son-in-law, Mike Ferneding and other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
