Last week we mentioned the death of George W. Wright at the home of his sister, Mrs. Goble, Tuesday evening of last week.
Mr. Wright was born near Lowell, Massachusetts, November 30, 1845. In 1852 with his parents he moved to DeKalb, Illinois, and alter his parents came to Clay county, Iowa.
George Wright enlisted in Co. F, 132 Ill. Inft. and was mustered out in May 1865. Some time after the war he went to Cherokee county, Kansas, where he took a homestead and where he resided for about fourteen months, and in the fall of 1879 came to Clay County, and bought 160 acres of land in Riverton township which he broke, and then rented it until 1907 when he sold it.
Mr. Wright made Spencer his home for many years. He was city marshall for about five years, and that capacity was a good official. he filled the office of deputy sheriff for two years under P.W. Madden, and in these different positions was a loyal and upright official.
Mr. Wright was married May 29, 1869 to Miss Rose Price, who died some years ago. They were the parents of one child, a daughter, who died in 1907. Mr. Wright was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge for about forty years, and also a member of the G.A.R. both societies attending the funeral and assisting in the ceremonies at the cemetery.
The funeral was held last Friday afternoon, the services being conducted by J.O. Thrush, pastor of the Congregational church, and the interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
