Simon Sheean, 1841-1924

The many friends of Simon Sheean were surprised and grieved to hear of his death which occurred suddenly at his home one mile south and seven miles west of town on Thursday, Jan. 17. Mr. Sheean had been ailing for some time but did not seem to be seriously ill. Shortly after he had eaten his dinner Thursday he went upstairs and as he was passing through the door into his bedroom he fell. It is believed that he had a stroke at this time. Others in the house heard his fall and ran to his assistance but in a very few minutes he passed away.

Simon Sheean, who was eighty-two years of age at the time of his death was born in Ireland. He remained In Ireland until he was twelve years old and then came to the United States. He first settled in the east but alter moved to eastern part of of Iowa and twenty-three years ago came to Clay county and settled on a farm one mile northeast of town where he lived for two years and then moved onto the farm southwest of town where he had lived for twenty-one years.

Simon Sheean was united in marriage to Miss Mary Sheean and to this union five children were born. One daughter, June, died seven years ago. The surviving children are, Tim Sheean and Katie Sheean who live at home and Mrs. Henry Jones of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Thomas Conroy of Jolly, Iowa. Besides his wife and four children, he is survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at ten o'clock by Father H. J. Schleier at the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.

Those from out of town attending the funeral services were Mrs. R. E. Roher and son Harold of Ft. Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. Simon R. Jones of Fort Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Conroy of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jones and son Henry Jr. of Fort
Dodge and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Conroy of Jolly, Iowa.
