William Johnson, a resident of Dickens for a number of years, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.F. Duncan, at Germantown, Minnesota, Saturday, March 26, 1927, at the age of seventy-eight years, eight months and four days. For the past fifteen years he had suffered from rheumatism, and in later years from stomach trouble.

William A. Johnson was born July 22, 1848, at High Point, North Carolina. When he was a young man he went to Westfield, Indiana, and from there to Dickens in 1891, settling on a farm. In 1890 Mr. Johnson was united in marriage with Mrs. Sophrona S. Tomlinson. In 1918 he went to Minnesota where he made his home with his daughter and son-in-law. During his long illness, when he was nearly helpless, he was accorded the tenderest care by his loved ones. Mr. Johnson held a birthright membership in the Friends church and for twenty years he attended the Methodist church.

Short services were held at the home in Germantown on Sunday, March 27. The body was taken to Dickens where services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon at two o'clock. Many of his old friends crowded the church to show their sympathy and their appreciation of a good man. Rev. H.A. Potthoff, pastor of the Jeffers, Minnesota, Methodist church, conducted the services, assisted by the local pastor, Rev. Rawley.

Besides his wife, Mr. Johnson leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Mrs. J.C. Welch of High Point, North Carolina, and son, Purvis Johnson of Dickens, four daughters, Mrs. A.F. Duncan of Germantown, Minnesota, Mrs. C.M. Carter and Mrs. John Carter of Dickens and Mrs. Lulu Carter of University Park; twenty-two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
