Mrs. Randall K. Wicks, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.A. Cooper, who live south of Spencer, died Saturday, May 12, 1928, at the sanitarium at Oakdale, Iowa, following an illness of fourteen months. She had been a patient for one week in the sanitarium, but had been in poor health prior to going to Oakdale. Her death was caused from tuberculosis of the lungs. At the time of her death she was 19 years, 1 month and 2 days of age.
The body was brought to Spencer Sunday and funeral services were held at the chapel of the Cobb Funeral Home Monday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. G.L. Edwards of Pomeroy officiated at the services. Pall bearers were Lawrence Chase, Gordon Tercey, Howard Taylor, Clifford Strand, Archie Weisbrod and Thomas Anderson. Burial was made in Riverside.
All Spencer barber shops were closed during the time that the services were held.
Lucille M. Cooper, who was the only daughter of O.A. and Fannie Cooper, was born April 10, 1928 [sic], at Dow City, Iowa. When her parents moved to Spencer she accompanied them and later was united in marriage to Randall K. Wicks, on October 9, 1925. Mr. and Mrs. Wicks had made their home with Mrs. Wicks' parents, Mr. Wicks operating the Wicks Barber Shop on South Main street.
She leaves to mourn her departure her parents and four brothers, Roger Thomas of Oakdale, Iowa, Lynn L. Cooper of Omaha, Nebraska, Gerald D. Cooper of Chicago, Illinois, and little Jimmie Cooper, aged 3 years, who is at home, and husband, who was ever faithful in attendance at her bedside during her long illness. All was done that loving hands could do but to no avail.
She was united with the reorganized church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in August, 1923, remaining true to the covenant and God until the last.
