Everhardus Van Hoven, 1834-1926

Everhardus Van Hoven, known to many Dickens and Spencer people, passed away last Saturday, May 22, 1926, at the home of his son, Dan, at Dickens, Iowa. Mr. Van Hoven had reached the advanced age of 92 years, 4 months and 17 days.

Mr. Van Hoven was born January 5, 1834, in Holland. He attended the schools of Holland and there spent his early manhood. He was graduated from the University of Cologne and was war correspondent for a French newspaper during the Crimean war. He came to the United States in 1864, settling in New York, and later moving to Detroit, Michigan. In 1867 he moved to Minnesota, where he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Fuebe, one year later. This union was blessed with four children who survive their father. Mr. Van Hoven practiced law for many years and was probate judge in Pine county for twenty-two years. He came to Dickens in 1917, making his home with his son Dan, with whom he lived until his death. Mr. Van Hoven was a faithful companion and a loyal neighbor.

Mrs. Van Hoven passed away several years ago.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, from the Congregational church of Dickens, Rev. B.J. Trickey, pastor of the First Congregational church of Spencer, officiating. Burial was made in the Dickens cemetery.

He is survived by his four children, Carl of San Francisco, California, George and Dan of Dickens, and Mrs. Emma Storkton of Montana.
