PETER MONROE MOORE DEAD

Old Settler and Well Known County Official Died Yesterday

After a long and lingering illness Peter Moore died at his home on east 5ht street in this city yesterday noon, at the age of sixty-nine years and twelve days.

Mr. Moore was born near Concord, Ohio, Oct. 13, 1841. In 1857 with his parents he moved to Bluff Point, Wis., where he resided for many years. In 1863 in company with his father he made an overland trip to Montana where he was engaged in the mines for eighteen months. In September 1868, with is father he emigrated to this county and bought a large tract of land and here has been his home ever since. Peter Moore followed a number of occupations. He taught school, farmed and followed civil engineering. His farming experiences covered a period of thirty-two years in Clay county and in 1898 he moved to Spencer.

August 19, 1865, he was married to Miss Mary S. Rowe and to this union two children were born, Arthur Rowe Moore and Mrs. Vernon Buck, both living in Seattle, Washington.

Mr. Moore was a practical man. He made and held friends. He was one of the charter members of the Congregational church in Spencer, and when the church was organized at Harmony he was one of the leaders in the movement.

In the affairs of the county he always took an active part. He was at the time of his death county surveyor and also the candidate of the republican party for re-election. He also served as county auditor in the early days, serving as justice of the peace in Gillett Grove township for many years, township trustee, school director,
school treasurer, and in the days when Iowa had a county judge Mr. Moore filled that important position. In whatever capacity he was called to
fill he did the duty in a highly acceptable
manner to all.

Mr. Moore was a public spirited citizen, and took great interest in the welfare of his town and county. He was always on the right side of any moral question, and it was no trouble to find where Peter Moore was standing on any matter.

He will be missed by a large circle of friends and relatives, but by none more than by his good wife and companion for more than forty-five years.
The community will miss Mr. Moore, and his death is a distinct loss to all.

The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at eleven o'clock at the Congregational church.
