October 11, 1918-September 25, 1993

Rev. Gerhart S. Meyer, 74, Commerce City, Colorado, formerly of the Everly area, died Saturday, September 25, at Rose Hill Care Center, Lakewood, Colorado.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at First Reformed Church, Everly, with the Rev. Ervin Voogd officiating.

Casket Bearers; Ray Kaiser, Carl Selzer, Donald Nielsen, Clarence Birchard, Norman VanEnter and Larry Hanson.

Burial will be in First Reformed Church Cemetery, Everly with the Warner Funeral Home, Spencer in charge of arrangements.

Gerhart S. Meyer, the son of Siebe W and Mary (Roskens) Meyer, was born October 11, 1918, in Everly. It was there he received his early education and later graduated from Okoboji High School. Following high school he attended and graduated from Northwestern Bible College in Oakland, Minnesota. He later received his BA Degree from Central College of Iowa in Pella and later attended and graduated from Los Angeles Theological Seminary. He also received a BD Degree from SW Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in the communities of Oakland, Minnesota; Eldon, Pattonville, Texas and Corpus Christi, Texas. He established the Calvary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, where he worked with neighbor-hood youth and gang members. He also established the Magic Valley Baptist Church in Pharr, Texas and the Nueces County Marriage Counseling Center in Corpus Christi. He was Boy's Director of the YMCA in Corpus Christi.

Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one son, Gary Meyer of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Doris Jean Souza of San Antonio, Texas and Marian Pattillo of Waxahachie, Texas; three sisters, Mary Matthiesen of Ogema, Wisconsin and Minnie Cowan of Norwalk, California and his brother Harvey Meyer of Spencer and 12 grandchildren.
