Linn Gowen Dead

Another of the early settlers passed to the great beyond last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Born in Massachusetts in 1857, Linn Gowen came to Clay county in an early day and will long be remembered as one of the pioneers. He settled in Herdland township and for many years has been known as one of the sterling farmers of the county. Truly it may be said that he was a good man, and one who will be missed. He was progressive and a leader in any cause which tended toward the upbuilding of his township and county. An energetic farmer and a valuable citizen, he held a number of public offices, and was justice of peace for years.

Less than a year ago his wife preceeded him to the grave. The funeral was attended by a large number of old friends and was held Sunday under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. It was largely attended over seventy carriages being in the procession when the body was taken from the home to Burr Oak cemetery where interment was had.
