HARVEY DIES OF WOUNDS RECEIVED

Greenville Soldier Died in France on October 18, According to News Received Last Week

Greenville, Jan. 15--The relatives of Nathan C. Harvey received a telegram Tuesday, January 7th, which conveyed to them the sad news of his death on October 18, 1918, from wounds received in action. Mr. Harvey was a mechanic assigned to Co. B., 168th Infantry, Rainbow Division. He enlisted at Des Moines on May 25, 1917, and was for a time stationed at the Coliseum. Later he was at the state fair grounds and in September of that year was transferred to Long Island, New York, where he remained until the latter part of October. The division to which he belonged reached France in November 1917, and in February of 1918 was sent to the front. Mechanic Harvey had been in active service the greater part of the time and participated in some of the worst fighting. The news of his death has been a severe shock to his family and friends.

Memorial Service for N.C. Harvey

Large Attendance at Service in Spite of Disagreeable Weather--Fine Program Rendered

Greenville, Feb 5--The memorial service for Corporal Mechanic Nathan C. Harvey was held Sunday morning at the Friends church in Greenville, regardless of the disagreeable weather. About one hundred persons were in attendance. The program consisted of special music by the church choir, recitation by Myrtle Dubois, and sermon by pastor O.P. Bantz. The community gave a beautiful floral offering as a token of love and respect. Corporal Mechanic Nathan C. Harvey was born at San Diego, California, January 17, 1890, and died in France on October 18, 1918, aged 28 years, 9 months and one day. He was the only son of Lillian Collier Harvey and George L. Harvey. Since the death of his mother (when Nathan was a small child) his home has been with his grandfather and family. Mechanic Harvey enlisted May 24, 1917, at Des Moines, becoming a member of Co., B, 168th Infantry, 42nd Division. After having been stationed at the Coliseum and fairgrounds at Des Moines, he was transferred in September of 1917 to Camp Mills, New York. The division to which he belonged reached France in November of 1917 and in February 1918 were placed in active duty at the front. Mechanic Harvey participated in some of the hardest battles. His death resulted from wounds received only three weeks before the signing of the armistice. Beside relatives and many friends, he leaves to mourn his loss his father and Mrs. Lucy L. Harvey and family with whom he made his home.
