Eugene J. McKiernan of Greenville died at his home on Wednesday morning April 29, 1925. Mr. Kiernan [sic] was well known in Greenville where he has lived for the past eight years.

Mr. McKiernan had been sick only a week and very few knew of his sickness so his death was a great shock to most everyone. Eugene J. McKiernan, son of James and Hulda McKiernan, was born Feb. 19, 1873, at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Buckingham, Oct. 14, 1895, at Kirksville, Mo. To this union were born eleven children, all of whom survive, and were present. Mrs. Melva McCann and Mrs. Florence McCann of Madison, Wisconsin, Mrs. Luden Kirsch of Leverett, Ia., Mrs. Grave Wilbur of Sioux Rapids, Ia., Lela Revere, James, Robert, Mary, Edit and Wayne, at home. Also eight grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters, Charles, LeRoy and Lester of Hannibal, Mo., Joe of Chicago, Ill., Elbert of Marceline, Mo., Orin of Cliffside, New Jersey, Mrs. Clara Wilson of Keokuk, Ia., and Mrs. Grace Kurth of Laurens, Iowa. Mr. McKiernan and family came to Laurens in 1900, where they resided for a period of 17 years. From there they moved to Greenville, Iowa, where he passed away, April 29, 1925, at the age of 52 years, 2 months and 10 days. In early youth he was united with the Christian church at De Sota, Iowa, and again at Laurens, Iowa, to which faith he was true to the end. During the last 25 years with the exception of 2 years, he was in the service of the Rock Island railroad. Among those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. LeRoy and Lester McKiernan of Hannibal, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Elbert McKiernan of Marceline, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Matt Yurth of Laurens, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCann and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. McCann and children of Madison, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Wilbur and children of Sioux Rapids, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. E. McKiernan and daughter of Fort Madison, Ia., Mr. Joe McKiernan of Chicago, Ill. Funeral services were held Saturday, conducted by Rev. Haskins at the Friends church. Burial was made in Liberty cemetery.
