Old Settler Dies

J.R. Lundt and old settler of Herdland township, died June 15, 1905. Death came from peritonitis following an operation for cancer. He had been sick for several months and went to Rochester, Minn., were it was performed. At first it was thought to be successful but death followed a few days later as above.

The funeral held last Sunday, June 18, was largely attended by people from Sioux Rapids where he was well and favorably known. The services were held at the residence and regardless of the threatening weather, the old settlers and neighbors came from miles around to pay their last respects to the departed friend and neighbor.

The I.O.O.F. of Sioux Rapids, of which he was a member, attended in a body and carried out their beautiful funeral ceremony in an impressive manner. To provide room for the large crowd the casket was placed on the front porch and the sermon delivered from the porch.

Juergen Reimer Lundt, was born January 15, 1855, in the village of Hemme, the duchess of Holstein, Germany, he died June 15, 1905, hence he was 50 years and 5 months old at the time of his death.

In 1872 he came to the United States settling first in Scott county, this state, in the spring of 1874 he came to Tama county where he was married to Ida Voss. Ten children were born to them, two of which have gone to the great beyond before the father. In 1884 they moved to Clay county, where they have since resided. He is survived by his wife and eight children, his aged mother, and five brothers and one sister, left to mourn his untimely death.--Sioux Rapids Republican.
