Raymond Amos Hollander, the son of Amos and Betty (Nelson) Hollander, was born March 16, 1952 in Hartley, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm west of Fostoria, where he received his education at Everly, graduating from Everly High School in 1971.
Raymond married Jolene Wittfoth on June 22, 1974. Following their marriage, they have lived in Spencer his whole life except for a brief time when they lived in Everly. Throughout the years, he worked at Witco for 21 years as a forklift driver and later he worked for Clay County doing maintenance, until his health forced him to retire. He also did many other various odd jobs throughout the years. Ray was a member of the Army National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Sgt/E5, while serving from 1981 until his discharge in 2002. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling in league and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Ray passed away at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN following a lengthy illness on Friday, August 20, 2010 at the age of 58. His father preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jolene of Spencer; his two sons: Jason and his wife, Christine Hollander of Spencer and Steven Hollander of Spencer; his mother, Betty Hollander of Spencer; one sister, June Miller and her husband, Richard of Spencer; four brothers: Nels Hollander and his wife, Shirley of Sac City, IA, Dale and his wife, Betty Hollander of Ames, IA, Marv Hollander of Moneta, IA and Danny and his wife, Connie Hollander of Spencer; one granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
