Diphtheria in Douglas Township

There has been two deaths from diphtheria this week up in Douglas township, Clay county, about nine miles north of Sioux Rapids, Miss Jennie Crick, age ten years, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Crick, and Miss Sadie Pratt, age eighteen years, sister of Mrs. Crick, dying at the same hour Wednesday morning. Mrs. Crick is also sick with the disease and her recovery is doubtful. It is not definitely known how the disease was contracted by the family, but it is supposed that it is the outcome of a severe case of tonsillitis. Miss Ella Pratt, a sister of Mrs. Crick, came down from Minnesota to make a visit, two weeks ago, and immediately was taken sick with a severe attack of tonsillitis. She soon recovered when the three named were taken sick with diphtheria. Miss Pratt is caring for the sick. The remains were laid side by side, in the Fanny Fern cemetery.

Later--Two of the boys are down with the disease and the family is under strict quarantine.--Sioux Rapids Republican.
