Jay Keplar, a former resident of Sioux Rapids, and vicinity, died at his home at Walnut Grove, Minn., May 16, after an illness of two months. Following an operation it was learned that the cause of his death was due to cancer of the liver and stomach. Jay Keplar was born at Stanhope, Iowa, Nov. 9, 1875, and at the time of his death was 48 years, 6 months and 7 days old. He was married to Zelma Alma McFarland on Feb. 19, 1902, and to this union were born nine children, two of whom preceded him in death. Besides a loving wife and seven children he leaves an aged mother and two brothers, W.B. Keplar of Stanhope, Ioaw [sic], and G. Keplar of Dalton, Colo., two sisters, Mrs. Alta Stemple of Bancroft, S.D., and Mrs. Lizzie Anderson of Lisbon, Iowa. Funeral services were held at Walnut Grove Sunday, May 18, and the remains were brought to the Fanny Fern cemetery for burial. Rev. Burns of this place conducted short services at the grave. Mr. Keplar was a man universally esteemed by all who knew him. He was honest and upright in his dealings. Death found him prepared. He had lived a life free from reproach, and such men are not afraid to die. He had done his life work well and he has drawn the drapery of his couch about him and has lain down to pleasant dreams.
